Racist DJ in Arizona Makes Rape Jokes

27 07 2008

Did I mention I spent a great deal of my upper-middle class sandnigger childhood in Arizona? Let me just give you an idea of what white males are like there. Here is the story, courtesy of WOC PhD (thanks Prof ;) ):

Oh, I forgot, most white males are basically like this, on a continuum. Also note that violence against women of color, specifically Latina women near the U.S./Mexico border, is rampant. Coyotes, white vigilantes, and police officers frequently rape, torture, and abuse Mexican and Central American women trying to cross the border.

With respect to the femicide in Juarez, we have to ask, who is doing these things?

Once again, the agents, males are invisibilized.

Women all over the world plead, and plead, and plead publicly for an end to these mass, targeted attacks on women and girls – but the mass male attacks upon women and girls only escalate.

Always, the pleas for mercy are underscored by the need that the attacks stop also “for the sake of men and families.”

So, women must be seen as perpetually concerned for the well-being of male attackers even while under lethal mass attack by males??!!

When, if ever, will the actual fight-back begin, and the futile pleading be abandoned?

When will women, if ever, cease pleading with males to protect them from violence by males?

People always complain that these kind of posts don’t get as many comments, but really, what more can be said? You nailed it.

This is horrid. To think, AZ would be one of my favorite places to live…

Yup, Mary Sunshine, the pandering to male superiority is disgusting. It is unbelievable how as soon as some try to speak out against male violence people have to jump in and say “what about teh menz??” Why can’t people be concerned about women because they are human beings? NOT because they have male relatives/spouses?

Gabriel, I do love Arizona for its incredible desert landscapes, the sunsets and sunrises are spectacular, and the nature there is amazing. The only thing that really bothered me about it is how white and how racist Arizona is demographically and culturally.

Rape jokes, porn jokes and misogynistic jokes are so normalized in a patriarchy. It’s sickening!

the pandering to male superiority is disgusting.

I agree, Lara.

I love the desert, but yes I noticed a distinct lack of POC when I visited. It did feel kind of wierd and I wondered how bad the racism must be for no people of color to be around. People said it was because of the high prices, but uh, there were working class white people.

Oh and of course no POC are ever in the higher income brackets. You know I have baggage when I can’t decide to add that comment or not. Interesting, I hadn’t thought about Arizona for awhile. Some of the more well-off folks would get together and over lovely dinner parties sponser crap for this and that for “those poor disadvantaged” POC, but yet, there were no POC at all.

They would sound so earnest and wistful that there were no POC, but yet, the place a remained solid white wall. Hmmmm, I did buy that excuse at the time…

It’s so true mAndrea. White people only like “diversity” when it doesn’t challenge any of their white privilege or doesn’t serve them in some sort of way (like when white people try to get POC in an office party to make them look more “tolerant” or “open-minded” in front of other white people).
What you said was not tacky at all, it’s the painful truth. Recognizing and calling out white privilege can be difficult and messy but it needs to be done.

A great book that addresses this supposed “want for diversity” by white people is Damali Ayo’s “How To Rent a Negro”. Absolutely hilarious and Ayo is a genius.

*sigh*

I’m from Arizona and while the landscape is beautiful, the people can be disturbing. I grew up in an area where there were crazy folks in the hills caressing their guns and saluting the confederate flag.

I know this is an old post, but I like your blog. :D
